Dalton Discussion 13: Inorganic Photophysics and 91AV

Introduction

The fields of photophysics and photochemistry of metal complexes - and their associated spectroscopic methodology - have never been more topical. The efficient use of light as a renewable energy source on a large scale, including artificial photosynthesis, is becoming paramount, as is use of light scale for photocatalysis. On a smaller scale, use of light in emission-based sensors for analytical and diagnostic applications, and as a means for information processing, transfer and data storage, and in OLED-type display devices, are all areas where real world applications either already exist or are close to development. The recent Dalton Transactions themed issue on 'Supramolecular Photochemistry' is a case in point.

Aims

This Discussion brought together people from a wide range of disciplines, from theory and ultrafast spectroscopy to medicinal chemistry and biology, but all with a shared interest in the use of light. Whilst the main focus of the meeting was on inorganic compounds and materials, it was inclusive and broadly-based to reflect the interdisciplinary nature of the field, and contributions from all photophysics-based disciplines were considered.

Dalton Discussion 13 will take place at The Edge, a purpose-built conference centre and accommodation complex situated within the Endcliffe Village at the University of Sheffield.

The Edge is set in landscaped gardens, overlooking a piazza within a cluster of beautiful walkways and greenery. The Edge is just 5 minutes out of Sheffield city centre, within walking distance of many local amenities.
Sheffield is centrally located and easily accessible from all areas of the UK. The city has excellent road and rail links.

There are three international airports nearby with a maximum 1 hour transfer time:

Manchester International
East Midlands
Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield.

Within the city, travel is just as convenient with great bus and Supertram services running regularly throughout the whole day

Accommodation is not included in the registration fee, but Single en-suite accommodation at The Edge is available to book when registering for the event.
