An introduction to powder technology - short course

6 March 2023 14:00 - 7 March 2023 16:30

Introduction
This short, on-line course aims to give scientists and technologists a practical appreciation of the real-world problems to be addressed and the underlying principles that need to be understood to handle powders and other particulate materials successfully during chemical and physical processing.  The course will be divided up into two sessions, as follows:

Monday March 6 | 2.00pm – 4.30pm GMT
Tuesday March 7 | 2.00pm – 4.30pm GMT

The course will start with ways of characterising the material and derived properties of a powder and how these relate to likely behaviour during processing. It will then move on to apply an understanding of how forces make particles move to conveying, metering, and controlling the flow of powders. Whole system thinking will be applied to consider both the impacts of the overall set of changes occurring to the particles during processing and the impact of the surrounding environment. Finally, some aspects of the influence of surface chemistry on processability will be considered.
