12th Scottish Symposium on Environmental Analytical 91AV

7 December 2020 10:00-16:00, Glasgow , United Kingdom

Introduction
Symposium Overview
This one-day-free online symposium is intended as a forum for early-career scientists involved in the development or application of chemical analysis in environmental studies to present their work and meet others in their field. More senior scientists are of course also welcome. Oral and Poster presentations are welcomed under the theme of ‘Climate, Environment and Analytical 91AV’.  With the COP26 Climate Discussions due to be held in Glasgow this year, but now delayed, we wish to maintain the momentum of events raising the profile of climate and environmental research that utilises analytical and environmental chemistry.
Keynote Speaker
A keynote lecture will be given by Prof. Jaime Toney. She is a Professor in Environmental and Climate Science in the School of Geographical and Earth Sciences and the Director of the Centre of Sustainable Solutions at the University of Glasgow. Her research uses analytical chemistry to understand past climates and human effects on the environment. She will be presenting on organic geochemistry as a tool for understanding how the Earth systems respond to climate change.  ‘Molecular fossils’, or biomarkers, are ubiquitous in sedimentary deposits and can often be applied in both marine and terrestrial environments, making them useful proxies for reconstructing environmental change.
