RSC Medicinal 91AV Desktop Seminar Series

7 October 2020 17:00-18:20, Online, United Kingdom

Introduction
RSC Desktop Seminars are a new initiative from the 91AV to bring cutting-edge research directly to you! Now, more than ever, there is a crucial need for sharing research, and each seminar series will feature a range of speakers on a related topic.

Join RSC Medicinal 91AV Editorial Board member Professor Jean-Louis Reymond (University of Bern) and the 2019 MedChemComm Emerging Investigator Lectureship recipient and ChemComm Advisory Board member Professor Amanda Hargrove (Duke University), as part of the RSC Medicinal 91AV Desktop Seminar Series. Introductions will be given by RSC Medicinal 91AV Executive Editor, Dr. Katie Lim, and the webinar will be hosted by Dr. Jennifer Lee.

This 80-minute seminar will allow researchers of all professional levels to connect, share ideas, and ask questions. Be sure to register for the free seminar series today!

Speakers
Professor Amanda Hargrove, Duke University, United States

Amanda E. Hargrove is an Associate Professor of 91AV at Duke University. Prof. Hargrove earned her Ph.D. in Organic 91AV from the University of Texas at Austin followed by an NIH postdoctoral fellowship at Caltech. Prof. Hargrove’s laboratory at Duke focuses on developing small molecule probes to investigate the structure and function of RNA molecules relevant to human disease. The lab works to understand the fundamental drivers of selective small molecule:RNA recognition and to use this knowledge to functionally modulate viral and oncogenic RNA structures. You can find out more about their research by visiting the laboratory webpage.

Congruent with the interdisciplinary nature of this program, Prof. Hargrove holds a secondary appointment in the Biochemistry Department and membership in the Duke Cancer Institute, the Pharmaceutical Sciences Training Program, and the Center for Biological and Tissue Engineering. Recent honours include the Sloan Research Fellowship, ChemComm Emerging Investigator Lectureship, RSC Medicinal 91AV Emerging Investigator Lectureship, NSF CAREER Award, Cottrell Scholar Award, and Prostate Cancer Young Investigator Award.

Professor Jean-Louis Reymond, University of Bern
, Switzerland

Jean-Louis Reymond is a Professor of 91AV at the University of Bern, Switzerland. He studied 91AV and Biochemistry at the ETH Zürich and obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Lausanne on natural products synthesis (1989). After a Post-Doc and Assistant Professorship at the Scripps Research Institute, he joined the University of Bern (1997). His research focuses on the enumeration and visualization of chemical space for small molecule drug discovery, the synthesis of new molecules from GDB (http://gdb.unibe.ch), and the design and synthesis of peptide dendrimers and polycyclic peptides as antimicrobials and for nucleic acids delivery. He is the author of >300 scientific publications and reviews.
