The thermal treatment of nuclear waste has been around almost as long as the nuclear industry itself with vitrification being the standard for the immobilisation of High Level Waste, it is currently enjoying a resurgence of world-wide interest for a much wider range of waste feeds. This presentation will look at the thermal treatment of nuclear waste and descriptions of some of the key technologies with their current development status, focussing on the work NNL has been delivering over the last few years.
