Introduction
This special event is being held by the European Young Chemists' Network (EYCN) who are hosting events across Europe this week to celebrate UNESCO's International Year of the Periodic Table.
In Liverpool we'll be looking at how advances in chemistry have led to new ways of delivering cancer-treating drugs. We'll also hear how a local invention changed how glass was made.

Taking the fight to Cancer: Developing the next generation of smart chemotherapy nanomedicines

Over the remainder of the 21st century cancer is expected to become the leading cause of death and the largest barrier to increasing life expectancy across the globe. Chemotherapy is the most common cancer treatment. Advances in the fields of polymer chemistry and nanotechnology have allowed the development of new approaches for the specific delivery of chemotherapeutics. In this talk, Sean Flynn from the University of Liverpool will present an overview of the current barriers and opportunities facing cancer researchers and will discuss the key findings from his postgraduate research.

The Innovation of Float Glass and Homes and Buildings of the future

Rory will present the science and history behind a local invention that changed the way glass was produced, forever transforming architectures, cities, and homes. We will also explore the state of the art and upcoming developments in glass technology that will enable homes and buildings of the future.
