Ornamental plants: our future invaders?
Our gardens are home to 17,000 plant species introduced from all over the world. A small number of these ornamental plants have become invasive, having a detrimental impact on native biodiversity. Climate change could provide opportunities for more plants to become invasive. Are our future invaders growing in your garden? Gardeners are important in Tomos’ approach to this challenging question; this was the focus of a gold medal-winning Discovery Zone exhibit at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The talk will discuss his experiences from Chelsea, how gardeners can help and how we can understand the impact of climate change on invasive plants from our gardens.
