OBJECTIVES:
According to the World Health Organisation, hundreds of millions of people globally suffer from mental
disorders and the Office of National Statistics estimates that one in six British adults suffers from mental
health problems at any one time. Considering these statistics it is likely that any pharmacist in contact with patients will encounter mental health patients and so should be prepared for the special issues and challenges involved in this. This one-day event is designed with an aim to:
• Update delegates on mental health issues and the role that pharmacy plays in mental health care
• Equip front-line pharmacists, through practical workshops, with an understanding of how to better support patients with mental health problems. Delegates will leave the conference with:
- Skills to communicate more effectively with mental health patients at all levels of care and an
understanding of how to deal with the challenges this brings
- Knowledge of medication adherence
- The ability to provide good mental health promotion and healthier lifestyle intervention
- An understanding of how to ensure that care is seamless across the sectors and follows the patient
• Provide delegates with the knowledge and skills needed to make a significant difference to people's lives
