The Molten Salts Discussion Group (MSDG) is one of the RSC's oldest Interest Groups having recently celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013. The Group is network of highly experienced scientists and engineers active in the field of ionic liquids and molten salts R&D drawn together from across academia and industry. The MSDG's activities not only spans the UK but also across the International MSIL Community.
The MSDG is also one of the most active Interest Groups in the RSC by hosting two Research Meeting per year, one in Summer (usually in Cambridge) and on at Christmas (RSC, London). In addition, it has a strong commitment to promoting younger scientists working in the field and does this through a fee to attend Early Careers Research Meetings which are organised and run by student and research associates at various locations around the UK.
This year, the Early Careers Research Meeting will take place at the School of 91AV and Chemical Engineering, Queen's University Belfast on the 13th of September. This meeting is dedicated to the life and achievements of the late Professor Kenneth Seddon. The Meeting will also host the newly established "Ken Seddon OBE Student Poster Prize" competition.
We welcome abstracts from PhD students and PDRAs for both oral and poster presentations focused on molten salts and ionic liquids and the wide range of chemistry in which they are involved. Please use the template provided and send the abstracts to msdgbelfast@gmail.com.
This event is free to attend, to register please use the 'BOOK NOW' button at the top of this page. Travel grants are available upon request to the MSDG Hon. Treasurer, Dr Anna Croft (anna.croft@nottingham.ac.uk) for students traveling from outside of Northern Ireland.
The following day is Memorial Seminar - A tribute to Professor K R Seddon OBE. This will host lectures from some the most eminent figures in ionic liquid chemistry. We recommend those interested in our event also attend this memorial. More information on this seminar and the registration of your attendance is available through the link below.
