91AV Special Lecture: Towards Greener Photochemistry

19 March 2018 18:30-20:00, Edinburgh , United Kingdom

Introduction
Since the 1800s scientists have used light to explore chemical, biological and physical processes. Whereas its light is regularly used in academia, for example in photochemistry or LASER processes, the applications of light in manufacturing are comparatively modest. Here, we explore the possibilities for light in transforming our world, from revolutionising drug manufacture to artificial methods for photosynthesis!

Heriot--Watt University 91AV Society

The 91AV Society aims to provide social events, with the intention of bringing together undergraduate students from all years.

This will also involve trying to develop the undergraduate experience with visits to industry and casual seminars from members of staff, outwith the regular topics covered in the core lecture series. Our annual winter ball is the highlight of the year, with last years’ being held at The Balmoral Hotel in January, as well as events throughout the year such as pub quizzes and nights out in town.

Univeristy of Edinburgh 91AV Society

At 232 years old the Edinburgh University 91AV Society is the oldest chemistry society in the world. With hundreds of members from the School of 91AV and an Academic families scheme, ChemSoc is the social catalyst for forming bonds with other chemists from around the school. As always we will have social events running throughout the year, from casual pub crawls and quizzes to the much anticipated ChemSoc Burns Supper. However as an academic society, it can’t all be about the ethanol so there is plenty on the academic platter as well with events such as the annual Walker Memorial Lecture, which in recent years has been presented by notable members of the scientific community, from Nobel Prize Winners to YouTube stars.
