The Worshipful Company of World Traders are going to have a special day with the Archivist of Kings College, Dr Geoff Browell, exploring past, present, and future in science under the theme of “CODE”.
The main event will consist of fully-illustrated presentations by 6 distinguished speakers, each at the very top of his or her own area of expertise. They will be referencing key objects of lasting scientific importance from King’s College London Archives (see below).
To give a taste of the backgrounds of just some of the speakers:
Professor Mischa Dohler is Chair Professor in Wireless Communications at KCL.He speaks regularly at international communications conferences and his work appears regularly in print and voice media.He was KCL media personality of the year in 2014.
Professor David Edgerton is a historian who has written books on Technology and Global History, including weaponry in the Second World War.He led the move of the Centre for Science, Technology and Medicine to the Department of History at KCL.
Denis Pellerin is an associate of Brian May, Queen guitarist and astrophysicist.They collaborated in research into Victorian 3D photography and the exhibition “The Poor Man’s Picture Gallery” shown at Tate Britain.A copy of Brian May’s book “Queen in 3D” will be available as a raffle prize at the dinner.
Other speakers are no less masters of their subjects and we can expect a fascinating afternoon and evening. All speakers will be available for informal questions and discussion at the following drinks reception and at dinner.
