Pioneers of Science: William Thomson, Lord Kelvin: Compasses, cables and much more.

16 November 2017 19:00-20:30, Belfast, United Kingdom

Introduction
William Thomson, Lord Kelvin, made enormous contributions to science and technology, in particular his work on the foundations of thermodynamics, in the development of the first successful Transatlantic cable, and in establishing the first physics teaching laboratory in the world.

In this talk Prof Andrew Whitaker from Queens University Belfast considers whether, despite these achievements, he should be regarded as one of the absolute greats.
