Introduction

The 37^th RSC Solid State Group Christmas Meeting will be held at the University of Reading on 18^th – 19^th December 2017. This meeting, which comprises oral presentations, a poster session and a conference dinner, will bring together academics, students and industrialists who are interested in the science and applications of solids.

Our confirmed plenary speakers are Prof. Peter Bruce (Oxford), Prof. Nora de Leeuw (Cardiff), Prof. Antoine Maignan (CRISMAT, France) and Prof. Paul Wright (St Andrews).
