An evening lecture given by Dr Roy Valentine (CEO, High Force Research Limited). HFR is an independent 91AV CRO set up in 1988 by its three owner Directors at the Durham University Mountjoy Research Park. It now has two sites, one wholly owned in Bowburn near Durham and two rented laboratories at the Wilton Research centre in Redcar.
HFR has remained totally independent during the 29 years of existence and grown organically in that time and now employs over 30 staff all of which are graduates. The talk will give a history of the company and Roy Valentine’s career and observations of changes in the fine chemical and pharmaceutical industries since the mid 1960’s.
Dr Roy Valentine is the Chief Executive Officer for High Force Research Limited, an independent chemical R&D company working in the pharmaceutical and fine chemicals industries. Roy started the company as the research director with fellow directors, Robert Redfern and Stuart Penny. He was previously the Research Director for Wendstone Chemicals in Billingham, UK, which was a start up in fine chemicals before Laporte acquired it in 1986. He has spent his entire career in the fine chemicals sector and started as a laboratory technician for Giegy Ltd in the 1960s. Roy gained his PhD in organo fluorine chemistry in 1978 from UMIST, Manchester.
