The Mid Southern Counties local section is organising a visit to Natural History Museum, London on 03 April 2017. We will be exploring the Minerals Collection and a large number of chemistry related labs.
The venue address is:
Natural History Museum
Core Research Labs
Cromwell Road
London SW7 5BD
Explore one of the world's finest collections of 500,000 rocks, gems and minerals, including 5,000 meteorites.
The Museum is uniquely placed to prepare, digitise, analyse and interpret natural history materials, from mosquito DNA to Martian meteorites.
Its unrivaled collections, broad expertise and cutting-edge equipment allow it to carry out complex non-destructive analyses of naturally occurring samples, and identify and interpret other materials such as metals, ceramics and composites. - See more at: http://www.nhm.ac.uk/our-science/departments-and-staff/core-research-labs.html#sthash.xR0As5Yw.dpuf .
All section members and their partners are welcome to attend, although spaces will be limited to 30 people. The section will arrange for a coach departing form Hartley Avenue, at the rear of Southampton University at 09.00 hrs, arriving at the museum at 12.00 hrs in time for lunch. Because catering facilities at the museum are limited, we will have to take a packed lunch. Tea and coffee will be provided.
The visit will start with a guided tour of the Minerals collection, after which we will split into three groups to explore the laboratories.
We aim to leave the museum at 16.00 hrs, arriving back at Hartley Avenue at about 19.00 hrs.
The cost of the visit will be £10.00 per person as a contribution to transport costs.
