Top of the Bench is a national competition that tests students’ chemical wits, independence & knowledge via a practical challenge and a quiz.
Schools in the East Midlands region are invited to take part in the regional heats of the popular RSC "Top of the Bench" competition. The winners will be crowned East Midlands champions and represent the region at the National Final in the spring.
Participants: Teams of 4 students (2 x Y9, 1 x Y10, 1 x Y11). Please note that students who have taken part in previous Top of the Bench heats are not eligible to compete
Entry is free.
Elimination Round Format: Quiz questions and tie-break statement to be completed by teams in their own time and returned no later than 21st November. The top teams will then be invited to compete directly against each other in the Regional Final.
Regional Final Format: Written chemistry quiz followed by a practical challenge in the fantastic labs at the University of Derby. Winners announced on the day. Participants: Teams of 4 students (2 x Y9, 1 x Y10, 1 x Y11). Please note that students who have taken part in previous Top of the Bench heats are not eligible to compete.
First Round submissions must be recieved by 21st November 2016. Regional Final: 21st January 2017.
