Priorities for healthcare research: funding, regulation and collaboration

This seminar will provide an opportunity to discuss priorities for healthcare research.

Attendees will assess the early impact of the Accelerated Access Review, due later this year, on innovation and improving access to treatments, as well as priorities for developing frameworks to drive medical innovation, and next steps for promoting cost-effectiveness in health research.

Further planned sessions focus on priorities for developing collaboration and partnerships across business and academia, the role of the third sector in advancing healthcare research, challenges for the regulation of the research industry, the role of NICE in the regulatory process and priorities for improving the use of data and informatics in healthcare research.

At this early stage we are delighted to announce that Professor Richard Barker, Lead, Development and Regulation Work Stream, Accelerated Access Review and Director, Centre for the Advancement of Sustainable Medical Innovation; Dr Russell Hamilton, Director of Research and Development, Department of Health; Dr Declan Mulkeen, Chief Science Officer, Medical Research Council; Professor Jonathan Montgomery, Chair, Health Research Authority; Dr Janet Valentine, Director, Clinical Practice Research Datalink; Mark Samuels, Managing Director, NIHR Office for Clinical Research Infrastructure and Cynthia Joyce, Chief Executive, MQ Transforming Mental Health are confirmed to speak at this seminar.

Lord Sharkey, Chair, Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) and Victoria Borwick MP, Member, Science and Technology Committee have kindly agreed to chair sessions at this seminar.
