"Redox 91AV at Christmas: Is it Better to Give or to Receive?"

16 December 2015, Newcastle, United Kingdom

Introduction
The 6th annual Kilcoyne Christmas Lecture

"Redox 91AV at Christmas: Is it Better to Give, or to Receive?"

Prof David Read & Dr Paul Wilson (Southampton University)

Every whizz, bang and explosion can be explained in terms of redox chemistry. In any redox reaction, one substance is ‘giving’ electrons to another. These transfers of electrons are responsible for the many wonders of chemistry, and being able to predict and explain them is the key to success as a chemist.

This lecture aims to illustrate and explain some of the mysteries of chemistry with a range of spectacular demonstrations interspersed with discussion and interactive questioning using Turning Point voting pads for each audience member.

Two performances:

Wednesday 16th December at 2.30pm primarily for a 6th form/schools audience;

Wednesday 16th December at 6.00pm for both schools and the general public.
