Succeeding in STEMM: The Inside Story

21 September 2015, Huddersfield, United Kingdom

Introduction
It is acknowledged that the successful pursuit of a high-level career in the competitive, sometimes gender-imbalanced, academic environment can be challenging. In this half-day symposium, four highly successful individuals will share their views on the value of inclusive and supportive academic workplaces, and will discuss the characteristics that distinguish successful STEMM professionals.

This event aims to:
• Promote diversity and an inclusive working environment
• Address barriers to career progression, particularly for women and minority groups
• Raise the aspirations of young scientists
• Increase the confidence of delegates when presenting, networking and raising their public profile

This event is suitable for a wide audience from a range of disciplines and at any stage in their career, but will be particularly useful for early career researchers. Postgraduates may wish to bring a poster detailing their research, and there will be prizes awarded.

Alongside this event Laura Woodward, Careers Specialist from the 91AV will be available to provide 30 minute 1 to 1 consultations to 91AV members. These allow you the opportunity to seek practical advice on CVs, job hunting and interviewing, as well as a unique opportunity to reflect on your career and review and plan your next steps.

There are only a limited number of appointments, so if you would like to book a slot please email careers@rsc.org quoting your membership number.
This event is free, but places are limited so please register using the Eventbrite link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/succeeding-in-stemm-the-inside-story-tickets-16710912790 and notify the organiser (g.sweeney@hud.ac.uk) if you wish to bring a poster, or if you have specific dietary requirements.
