We invite you to be part of a new frontier in structural imaging; an opportunity for both industry and academia to explore the potential of a powerful new technique, leading to a new era of research in materials, chemistry and structural biology. And we invite you to be part of this pioneering development, at the beginning.
At STFC’s Daresbury Laboratory, a new capability in Ultrafast Electron Diffraction was demonstrated in October 2014, putting the UK on track to become one of only a few places globally that can make ‘molecular movies’. This event builds upon this breakthrough, and aims to develop an international electron diffraction community, to explore the capability further and to discuss future developments towards a possible UK facility at Daresbury Laboratory.
Structural imaging has fundamentally underpinned advances in almost every aspect of modern life. The next steps towards time-resolved ultrafast structural imaging – taking images to directly measure the structural changes that determine the mechanical, electrical, catalytic and optical properties of matter, on timescales relevant to fundamental processes – are being actively pursued worldwide.
The workshop will cover the following topics:
• • Techniques for structural science and their applications to industrial challenges
• Introduction to Electron Diffraction (ED)
• Introduction to Serial fs Crystallography with X-ray Free Electron Lasers
• Complementarity of Ultrafast Electron Diffraction(UED) to Serial-fs crystallography with X-ray Free Electron Lasers
• The global picture of progress in UED – including speakers from international laboratories
• Practical considerations for the experimental technique
• The potential industrial applications of UED
The day’s agenda can be found here: http://bit.ly/1C7FyPb .
The event will incorporate the official launch of VELA (Versatile Electron Linear Accelerator), which has been purpose built to assist UK industry to affordably bridge the gap between prototypes and market ready products.
We look forward to seeing you on the day.
