Vålådalen is a special place for quantum chemists. The international meeting held there in 1958 marked the beginning of a long series of summer and winter schools in their subject. These schools - organized and led by late Prof. Per-Olov Löwdin - collected many thousands of students worldwide and played an important role for the careers of many young researchers. The meeting is also commonly regarded to mark the very start of Quantum 91AV in Sweden.
We also acknowledge the fact that by 2008 twenty-five years have passed since Björn Roos was installed as Professor in Theoretical 91AV in Lund, often regarded as the start of Theoretical 91AV in Sweden.
Quantum 91AV and Theoretical 91AV are closely linked subjects, and as a first major initiative of our section, formed this year, we wish to celebrate 2008 with a special conference, giving it the same title and venue as the original meeting in Vålådalen 1958. We will look back but, more importantly, we look ahead on the challenges for our research and our section to come in the future.
