The talk will be based on the premise that anthropogenic climate change is a reality and examine the options available to us in terms of how the energy landscape needs to evolve over the next few decades and the associated issue of the carbon mitigation mechanisms open to us. It will explore the various technology options that are available and some of the economic and political issues that need to be addressed if we are to achieve the goal of avoiding catastrophic climate change. Some examples will be given of how chemists and chemical engineers are helping to address this challenging global problem
