Died Wiltshire 16th December 2021 aged 94
Retired, previously of Monsanto, Leatherhead Food RA, Torry Fisheries Research Station, Aberdeen, C&T Harris/FMC/Hillsdown Holdings/ Premier Foods and BMMA.
Born a Welsh speaker, skilled in languages and science and fascinated by agriculture, Bryan studied at Aberystwyth UCW completing his PhD on amino acids in grasses. After working in a variety of food research roles, he became Technical Director at C&T Harris (Calne). There began an interest in the development of Wiltshire Cure bacon and a long career in promoting and supporting the development of related national food standards and businesses. Even in retirement, Bryan shared his knowledge and skills at home supporting farm based bacon curing businesses, and also world wide through British Executive Services Overseas (BESO) an arm of VSO. This led him to stints in Barbados, Palestine, Tanzania helping in the development of meat processing businesses appropriate to local tastes and culture. He finally retired at the age of 85 and just played golf, ran the local U3A SciTech group, gardened and sang!
