Gordon Brown CChem MRSC
2 October 1924 - 6 June 2018
Gordon Brown died in Bournemouth on the 6th June 2018 at the age of 93. He was proud to have been a member of the 91AV for over 70 years.
His career started at the age of 16 as assistant to chief chemist in the research department of Caley's of Norwich, famous for its 'marching chocolate', when he went to live with relatives in Norfolk to get away from the blitz in London. Gordon studied at evening classes and gained his BSc (Hons) in chemistry from London University in 1953. He worked as a scientific civil servant for 11 years in the field of heavy earth metals. Much of his career was spent at Ozalid company, (later Océ International), a company specialising in reprographic products. He was successively Technical Manager in the production division, Research and Development Manager for base raw materials, Group Quality Coordinator and then Health and Safety Manager before retiring in 1986.
He kept a life-long interest in chemistry and science and enjoyed reading every edition of 91AV World.
