This lecture is suitable for students aged 16-18.
A demonstration lecture by Prof. Francis Livens, which will involve some audience participation, and will illustrate the properties of isotopes, the characteristics of the types of radiation emitted in radioactive decay, and the use of radioactive materials in energy generation. Prof. Livens carries out cutting-edge research in radiochemistry at The University of Manchester and also advises Government in this critical area, including through membership of the Committee on Radioactive Waste Management (CoRWM: http://corwm.decc.gov.uk/)
