This course will cover analytical columns including the theory, optimisation and applications, the separation process and types available. This is followed by a brief introduction into the types of detectors used in gas chromatography both universal and selective. Flame ionisation (FID), thermal conductivity (TCD) and electron capture (ECD) detectors are covered in detail followed by the types of MSDs available, ionisation techniques, mass filters and detectors. Mass spectra and library searching takes us very smoothly into data analysis where we look at reasons for performing the analysis: qualitative analysis, identification, quantitation and semi-quantitation are covered
