COURSE OVERVIEW
Chrom Africa offers an outstanding platform for training on Polymerase Chain Reaction- Enzymes-linked Immunosorbent assay(PCR-ELISA) which is a commonly used analytical and biochemistry assay and or diagnostic tool in medicine, plant pathology, biotechnology and quality control check in various industries
OBJECTIVES OF CONDUCTING HANDS-ON PCR-ELISA TRAINING
1.Understanding PCR-ELISA:
- Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of PCR-ELISA, which combines two powerful techniques: polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
- They will learn how to detect and quantify specific PCR products directly after immobilizing DNA on a microtiter plate.
- Pathogen Detection: Trainees will explore the use of PCR-ELISA in diagnosing viruses in clinical samples (e.g., blood, serum, biopsies).
- Bacterial and Fungal Identification: Accurate diagnosis of pathogenic bacteria and fungi to species level for appropriate treatment.
- Genotyping: Understanding how to identify carriers of recessive diseases.
- Environmental Monitoring: Analyzing fungal and bacterial isolates in hospitals.
- Safety Assurance: Rapid monitoring of pathogens (e.g., salmonella) in dairy products.
- Blood Donation Screening: Detecting contamination in blood products (e.g., hepatitis B antigens, HIV-specific IgG).
- Epidemiology: Tracking the spread of pathogenic isolates and emergence of new strains.
ADVANTAGES OVER CONVENTIONAL ELISA
PCR-ELISA offers several advantages:
- Broad Target Range: It can detect genomic material from any biological specimen using suitable primers.
- Less Dependency on Antibodies: Unlike conventional ELISA, it doesn’t require purified monoclonal antibodies and antigens.
- Versatility: Applicable to various fields beyond pathogen detection1.
