Our venue will be the Kitchen and Bar at the Printworks Campus of Leeds City College, located on Hunslet Road about one mile south of the centre of Leeds. Details and directions will be provided when you register. The meals provided by the Printworks for our past events have been excellent and the staff have made us very welcome. We shall collect a contribution of £10 per person towards the meal (details when you register) and you will be able to buy drinks (cash or card) at the bar. You are welcome to bring a guest if you wish.
The AGM will update you on our activities and confirm the membership of our Committee for 2024/25. We know that two of our current Committee members (Alastair Baker and Richard Whewell) must leave us, after serving the maximum of two consecutive terms of office. The Committee will discuss Dr Whewell's successor as Secretary in time to inform the AGM. Two other members, currently co-opted, wish to become Ordinary Members. Overall, we have a couple of vacant seats on the Committee, and we are on the lookout for Section members who would like to join us. Please contact Dr Whewell if you are interested - he will tell you what is involved and supply a nomination form for you to complete. We shall also need a short "pen portrait". We will welcome any Central Yorkshire members who wish to spread their interest in 91AV and help us put our events into place. If vacancies exceed nominations, late nominations will be accepted at the AGM. If nominations exceed vacancies, the election will not be held during the AGM but will be organised by RSC HQ.
Our after-dinner speaker will be Terry Kee from the University of Leeds. Dr Kee's very broad interests in 91AV include "AI and the Birth of a New Form of Life", and this fast-developing topic will be the prime focus of his speech.
An early booking would be very helpful, to give us a better idea of numbers and plan accordingly. When you contact Dr Whewell to book, please include details of any dietary or other special needs. In any case, please book before Monday 11th March 2024. You will still have menu choices with which to deal, between booking and attending. We look forward to welcoming you "in person".
