BMSS Introduction to Mass Spectrometry Course

5 December 2022 09:00 - 6 December 2022 17:00, United Kingdom

Introduction
The British Mass Spectrometry Society (BMSS) is now advertising its next Introduction to Mass Spectrometry course, which will take place virtually (Zoom) on the 5th and 6th December 2022. This course covers all fundamental aspects of mass spectrometry, including theory, instrumentation, applications, interpretation and best practice.

Content of the course:

This course will introduce the basic concepts and terminology of mass spectrometry including:
  • An explanation of the most important ionisation techniques used in mass spectrometry, such as electrospray ionisation, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation and atmospheric pressure ionisation techniques.
  • Fundamentals of common mass analysers such as quadrupoles, ion traps, time-of-flight (TOF), Orbitrap, and Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FTICR), along with their relationship to parameters such as resolution and mass accuracy.
  • Theory and applications of tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) experiments, and strategies for data interpretation.
  • General considerations for sample preparation and troubleshooting which would be applicable across a range of applications.
  • The opportunity to “meet the experts” and discuss your own applications and challenges related to mass spectrometry with experts from industry, instrument manufacturers, and academia.
Benefits of attending:
  • All course tutors are experts in mass spectrometry, drawn from industry, instrument manufacturer, public institutions, and academia.
  • Delegates receive a course manual containing complete lecture notes together with other background information such as key references and a guide to mass spectrometry resources.
  • On completion of the course delegates may request a certificate of attendance from the BMSS Administrator. Professional Bodies, such as the 91AV, will accept the course as contributing to an individual’s CPD Portfolio if it relevant to their employment.
