Across the globe there is a desire to understand and act upon the challenges associated with climate change, biodiversity loss and social inequality. Never before have populations been more aware of the need for change nor had such an appetite to act upon this knowledge. The RSC recognises the role chemical sciences must play in solving the challenges associated with sustainability and the unique opportunity we have to position our subject and profession at the heart of these solutions. We are considering the option of utilising the RSC networks and staff to form a Corporate Sustainability Special Interest Group (SIG) where we can bring together individuals and businesses across the chemical sciences sector who are passionate about changing how businesses operate to meet these global challenges.
In this session we will look to review the purpose and need for corporate sustainability and get perspectives from organisations already working to shape their operations around the concept of sustainability. We will use these insights to begin conversations around what role the RSC can play in supporting the drive towards sustainable practices across the chemical sciences sector and get your input into whether a corporate sustainability SIG would be valuable, how we might shape that SIG and what future activities could support us to effect change in our own organisations.
Speakers:
Dr Michael Edmondson, National Nuclear Laboratory
Dr Asutosh Yagnik, Sidera Limited
Environment Agency speaker to be confirmed.
