Cold plasma processes have been developed specifically and purposefully based on their nonequilibrium properties and their capabilities to initiate chemical reactions in the gaseous phase at relatively low temperatures. Although they are widespread and involved in many application fields, the main part of Dr. Denis' talk will focus on thin film deposition. More precisely, the methods leading to material coating will be described and the film performances will be illustrated by concrete examples such as self-cleaning windows. Finally, other plasma applications will be briefly reviewed ranging from surface functionalization and etching to sterilization and medicine.
