After careful consideration of the coronavirus situation, we have made the decision to cancel the Luminescent silicon nanostructures Faraday Discussion in York on 12-14 February.
As Faraday Discussions lead directly to article publication in our journal, we will proceed with the publication of the volume; details will follow as soon as we are able.
As the world continues to deal with the new coronavirus, we are aware that the issue is creating a number of uncertainties around potential travel disruption and health risks. Given that the event is soon to take place, we are taking clear action now to remove any uncertainty regarding delegates’ plans in the coming week.
We are cancelling the Faraday Discussion for the following reasons:

We are cancelling the Faraday Discussion for the following reasons:
- We do not know the direction that the coronavirus outbreak will take. The World Health Organization has declared the virus a global health emergency. With people travelling from all over the world, we do not want to take any risks, for example with regards to potential disruption and delegates facing challenges returning home.
- The ethos of the Faraday Discussions has always been around sharing new and unpublished work in an international forum. As this meeting included a sizeable international delegation, it is no longer feasible to deliver the event.
- The wellbeing of everyone attending any of our events is our number one priority. While the Faraday Discussions are important to us, we believe that cancelling is the most sensible approach at the current time.
